Box office report: Will 'Rowdy Rathore' beat 'Agneepath'?
Jun 4th 2012, 06:21

Akshay Kumar sets the box office on fire with his rowdy avatar. If early estimates are to be believed, Rowdy Rathore has a great chance of beating the BO figures of Hrithik Roshan's Agneepath

Akshay Kumar is on cloud nine these days! After tasting success with Housefull 2, Akki was quite confident about Rowdy Rathore's fate at the box office. Going by the numbers, one can't deny the fact that the Khiladi Kumar has delivered a blockbuster yet again. Not only has Rowdy Rathore managed to get the best opening of 2012 at the box office, it is surely on its way to beat Hrithik Roshan's Agneepath, when it comes to the total weekend collections.

Directed by Prabhu Deva and co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ronnie Screwvala, the masala entertainer marks Akshay’s return to a full-fledged action role after seven years. Rowdy Rathore netted Rs 29.8 crore in the first two days. Released in 2,800 screens across the country, the film bagged Rs 15.10 crore on the opening day alone. Agneepath had enjoyed a record opening of Rs 21.25 crore, and made over Rs 30 crores in the first two days (Friday and Saturday).

Early estimates say that Akshay's masala movie has made a whopping Rs 46.80 crore. Going by these figures, Rowdy seems to have already surpassed Hrithik's movie, which had made close to Rs 45 crore. We'll have to wait to find out if the film has enough power to beat the overall collections of Agneepath!

Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan celebrate 39th wedding anniversary
Jun 4th 2012, 07:06

Big B said it brought back memories of their wedding day

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan celebrated their 39th marriage anniversary on Sunday. The couple got married June 3, 1973 and have two children – son Abhishek and daughter Shweta.

“39 years! And just made it to the blog in time to write. A minute more and all the headers would have had to undergo change. Greetings have been exchanged, family has gathered round with wishes…and dear occupy most of the space in the house…Now.. a time to reminisce, to go back and relive those moments, to remember all that transpired,” Amitabh posted on his blog.

Amitabh says Jaya and he had planned a holiday in London to celebrate Zanjeer success, but his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan wanted them to get married before going on the vacation. “Zanjeer had just released. And Jaya and I and a few dear friends had decided that if the film did well we would all go to London for a holiday. After a few anxious days on the results of the box office, it was time to put our decision ‘in line’. So I told my parents, who I had now invited to come and live with me, as is the culture in our land, about our decision. And my Father came down heavily on me – ‘If you are planning a holiday with this girl, you will have to marry her and go, else your decision is denied.’ I was an obedient child! I got married the very next day in a quickly organized wedding with family and some dear friends, without any fanfare, and left for the holiday that very night,” he further posted.

Big B says that his marriage was not a lengthy affair. “Marriages and weddings entail great amount of ritual and protocol and decorum and priests and pundits and maulvis. They last for days with great fanfare. Ours was a simple Bengali pundit wedding, exchange of flowered garlands, the mangal sutra, the sindoor and it was all over before the women from Jaya’s side could stop their finger in mouth screams of ‘odododooooo’ … or words to that effect,” he added.

Ranbir Kapoor summoned by Udaipur court for smoking!
Jun 4th 2012, 06:37

The actor has been accused of a criminal offence by the Udaipur court

After Shahrukh Khan, it's Ranbir Kapoor's turn to get summoned by a court for smoking in a public place! The Udaipur court has registered a criminal offence against the Rockstar actor.

While Ranbir and Deepika Padukone were shooting for Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani in Udaipur, a local daily published images of RK smoking on May 28, 2012. Reacting to these images, Harish Vaishnav lodged a complaint under CrPC Section 156(3) at a local court in Udaipur. As a result, Ranbir has been summoned by the court on June 26, 2012.

Talking about the case Harendra Singh, in-charge of the Ghanta Ghar police station, Udaipur, said, "A copy of the summons reached us on Saturday evening. He is being booked for violation of Section 5 of Rajasthan Prevention of Smoking Act. Our personnel will visit the actor in Mumbai next week to hand over the summons to him."

According to the Rajasthan Prevention of Smoking Act, a person found guilty of smoking in public can be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of six months or a fine of Rs 200. Sigh!

So now we have not one, but two B-town actors – Shahrukh on June 21 and Ranbir on June 26 – who have been summoned by courts in Rajasthan. Will they be convicted? Time to wait and watch!

Apurva Agnihotri: I took a risk with ‘Aasman Se Aage’, but I like it

Apurva Agnihotri: I took a risk with 'Aasman Se Aage', but I like it
Jun 4th 2012, 05:46

The actor is happy playing a grey character in his latest show

Apurva Agnihotri is back on television. After winning hearts as Armaan sir in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, Apurva did several other shows such as Kaajjal and Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi but none got him the same fame. His latest show Aasman Se Aage is all set to change that. The show, which airs on Life OK, sees Apurva playing a reality show producer with shades of grey.

“Reality shows strive on emotions. People like to watch how a person works for 18 hours a day to earn 1,000 bucks or hardships faced by an autorickshaw driver. This is because they relate to the hardships,” Apurva told IANS. “No one would really like to listen to the stories of a multi-millionaire. Aasman Se Aage delves into the world of reality shows. I wouldn’t say it is 100 percent based on reality shows – 70 percent is about the reality shows, 30 percent is fiction,” he added. The actor is quite familiar with reality shows as he has participated in two of them – Nach Baliye and Pati Patni Aur Woh.

He believes that agreeing to work in Aasman Se Aage was risky. “I have taken a risk, but I like it. It is a path-breaking show, something, which has not been on television before. The show has opened up well, considering there was hardly any publicity. Moreover, it clashes with Bade Acche Lagte Hain (on Sony) in the same time slot,” he said.

Apurva feels television is yet to evolve. “I don’t think television has evolved as yet, we are still trying to. The saas-bahu (mother-in-law and daughter-in-law) serials still rule the roost. People still like to watch such shows and are hesitant to accept new concepts,” he said. Several shows start off with new concepts, but end up showing saas-bahu politics. This, Apurv said, is done for sake of increasing profit and added: “For the benefit of the show, they include major twist and turns.”

“I think we should start having various seasons of the shows, just like American drama Desperate Housewives, where the curiosity remains among the audience,” he added.

The actor, who made the switch from the big screen to the small one several years ago, is in no hurry to return to Bollywood. “I have no idea when I would be back on the big screen. I always opt for something that excites me. I would love to direct,” he said.

ADHINAYAKUDU movie review: It’s an overdose of Balakrishna

ADHINAYAKUDU movie review: It's an overdose of Balakrishna
Jun 4th 2012, 05:54

Telugu film Adhinayakudu does not look like a commercial entertainer, but it may appeal to ardent fans of Balakrishna. For others, it would be difficult to endure the loud political drama

In the film, you have to watch not one, but three Balakrishna as he is doing a triple role. His intensive dialogues carry a lot of punch and power and it can appease his fans, but his stylised acting may not be well-received by today’s youngsters. The story revolves around a much respected leader Rama Krishna Prasad hailing from Rayalaseema of Andhra Pradesh, who has been targeted by his political rivals. Prasad is known for his influence in Rayalaseema’s social and political landscapes. Rivals hire contract killer Kittu, who is actually senior Rama Krishna Prasad’s son. Rather than doing his job, Kittu protects his father, which infuriates the villains. Later it is revealed that Rama Krishna is the son of Harischandra Prasad who was a legend in Seema politics. Harischandra Prasad is killed by Kittu, which creates a rift between the father and son.

Tolerating one noisy Balakrishna is more than enough for the audiences, but in this film they have Balakrishna in three different roles and avatars. Director Parachuri Murali has made things worse by writing a script, which is full of illogical and ill-conceived sequences. Technically, Adhinayakudu fails to meet the expectations because of poor production values, bad editing and below average cinematography. Lakshmi Rai and Saloni provide glamour quotient. Veteran artists’ roles and performances do not speak much. Kalyani Malik’s music is ordinary.

Watch Adhinayakudu only if you are a genuine fan of Balakrishna in particular.

Preity Zinta held up by customs
Jun 4th 2012, 05:29

The Ishkq In Paris actor’s baggage was not cleared at the airport

Preity Zinta is going through a rough patch in her career and the buzz around her debut film as a producer, Ishkq In Paris isn’t really great. To add to her miseries she recently had a brush with the Customs department at the international airport in Mumbai, over clearing of luggage when she returned from Colombo recently.

Preity had gone through the green channel with a handbag when she was stopped by an Air Intelligence Unit batch. She reportedly told them she had no more bags and left the airport. Passengers who do not have anything to declare are allowed to pass through the green channel. However, after about half-an-hour, three of her staff, including her personal assistant, a make-up man and another person, arrived with eight bags, of which four were handbags. All these bags had tags bearing Zinta's name. We heard that the Customs officials refused to clear the bags, saying the actor should have been there, according to the rules.

After the Customs issued summons to her on the same day (May 28), the actor sent her brother the next day with authorisation to clear the baggage. When asked, commissioner of Customs PM Saleem confirmed the incident. Customs has seized two Buddha statues, which the actor claimed were gifts. "We will now ascertain the statues' value," a Customs official said, requesting anonymity. Customs will charge duty on the statues if their value exceeds Rs 35,000.

Akshay Kumar ecstatic over public response to 'Rowdy Rathore'
Jun 4th 2012, 09:11

Actor Akshay Kumar is elated with the response to his recently released film Rowdy Rathore and insists that he would continue doing movies of all genres. Having begun his career with action films, Akshay later took a break to star in romantic, comedy and dramas, delivering hits like Dhadkan, Hera Pheri, Namaste London, Welcome and Singh is King.

Akshay Kumar ecstatic over public response to 'Rowdy Rathore'

"When I used to do action movies earlier, everyone used to say I am doing a lot of them. These are nothing but mood swings of the audience. What I have learnt is one should do everything from comedy to action, romantic to negative roles. There should be balance in everything," Akshay said.

Directed by Prabhu Deva, Rowdy Rathore, an action film features Akshay and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. The film released last Friday. "We went to a few cinema houses and saw people dancing in theatres, whistling and having fun. It feels great to see this kind of response. I heard that in Rajasthan about eight lakh Rajput Rathores, dressed in traditional avatar, are all set to watch the film together," Akshay said.

"It is a big thing for me. Even if I don't get an award it's ok, but it is this reward that makes me happy," he said. Rowdy Rathore, a remake of Telugu film Vikramarkudu, has had a compelling start. The film has reportedly earned Rs 15.10 crore on the opening day, making it the third biggest opening of all times after Agneepath and Bodyguard.

When asked about the one thing that clicked with the audience, Akshay says, "May be the story line. After all, it is a remake film from South and it is surprising that people are liking the film. The amazing part is that in Chennai and Hyderabad, it is doing a good business. It is surprising that people want to see the same film in different languages. It is the same film after all."

Randeep Hooda is tired of sleeping with Sunny Leone!
Jun 4th 2012, 04:32

A string of steamy sequences with the pornstar-turned-Bollywood babe for his upcoming release Jism 2 has left Randeep Hooda exhausted!

Randeep Hooda looks worn-out these days. The dishy actor has been busy shooting for Pooja Bhatt's upcoming thriller Jism 2 starring Sunny Leone. We hear that both Hooda and Sunny were a bit awkward and hesitant to get ready to 'perform' before the camera. But as the shoot progressed, much to the relief of director Pooja Bhatt, the two got quite comfortable.

And now, Randeep is complaining about the exhaustion that comes from filming the cosy scenes. "Just finished a major lovemaking scene for Jism2. Extreme, exhausting and exhilarating! Hope we can turn people 'on' all over with it," tweeted the 35 year-old actor.

We know Hooda's ability to pull off ‘such’ scenes convincingly. Those who have seen him in films like Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster and Rang Rasiya will vouch for that. We would like to believe that Hooda has put in a tremendous effort to look his best in bed with Sunny. We definitely can't wait to catch the film now!
